From mid-August for 2 weeks to visit BEL-GER-NET... am very anxious about the covid epidemic there. Will European nations have the wits and strength to win the battle and reopen things as usual?

There are several similar questions posted on this forum.

I think you should be also "very anxious about the COVID epidemic" in the US. If things don't get better HERE, the EU countries might wait with opening the air traffic with the US.

Yes, they have the strength to overcome the pandemic disease and win the battle.

It's extremely unlikely you'll be visiting Europe in August, OP. But there's nothing you can do but wait and see how things play out.

We canceled our hotels for the same time frame. Hoping that the airline cancels the flight.

Thanks all! I was very hopeful, but not so much now. I made some non-refundable hotel reservations to lock in the deals. It might be just gone...will see how things are in mid June.

If you look at what Big Business is doing, they have announced that the Tour de France has been rescheduled to August 29-September 20, and one of the sporting world's most complex annual events is Big Business indeed.

So while there are no guarantees, I can take a little optimism that they think Le Tour can be held safely not too long after your dates. The bigger question is whether the USA has enough control over their situation at that point to allow Americans to freely enter the Schengen countries again.

Why? The EU will announce measures for the next 30 days at the end of the week. August is still 100 days away.

I am currently planning a Europe trip for September. I'm thinking it will be wide open again by then. Excluding Italy and Spain, of course.

I agree. I think they'll have it under control. The question is whether they'll admit Americans. We're way behind them.
