In Sydney Nova Scotia there is a historic park where you go down in what had been a coal mine. A retired miner guides you and tells about it. The mines go out under the ocean, it was quite interesting.

Not too far away is Louisburg, a restored town built by the french in colonial times.

Many other sights up there.

Runza Hut Restaurant in North Platt NE just off of the I-80 is a fast food place you don’t want to miss. One Runza and some onion rings & fries will make your day worthwhile. It’s an unusual place to visit because you can’t get a Runza just anywhere. YES I said you can’t find Runzas just anywhere very limited locations in NE, IA, KA & CO.

While in Nebraska...
Windmill State park (near Pioneer Village exit)

and of course 'Ole's Big Game Bar, (if you are lucky, you can get their Brisket if they have done catering and have left-overs (not on the menu, so ASK!)
https://www.olesbiggame.com/

and Lee's Chicken fried in peanut oil (Lincoln) (They have an Organ player on Friday ad Saturday nights, just like in 1950's)

Sounds like you will be STUFFED by the time you leave Nebraska!

BTW: we made Runza's for community fundraisers when I lived with my grandparents in Nebraska
They had a HUGE chest freezer, and we would fill it with Runza's. We made them for our Nebraska Picnic last summer (in WA).

Cheese Frenchies and Creamed Peas too!

Of course... Dorothy Lynch Dressing and Reuben Sandwich is also from Nebraska.
I am particularly fond of Nebraska and Colorado Beef ('hearty stock' that survived the cattle mutilations of the 1970 and 1980's)

The SPAM factory tours in MN were fun and nice break from the road. (as is the Cranberry factory tour / in MA)

No more $0.25 Ice Cream cones at Little America in WY

But... I keep my free Frosty keychain very handy. I'm shooting for 300 free Frosties this year. (Without gaining weight or dying from a heat attack, or from 'Frosty poisoning'... )

I've been there! Runzas are a treat.

They can't hold a candle to the bakery ones though. And here in MN I still make them now and then for my bachelor son. Learned how in Wayne, NE.

I’ve got’a say this is another off the road place to visit that you can tell you’re grandkids about and amaze them. The world’s only corn palace is in Mitchell S.D.

Don't forget to stop at the Coon Dog Cemetery southwest of Tuscumbia, Alabama.

It's very famous as a stop for tour buses, and all the travel agents know about the place.

My friend's father conducts the funerals for the deceased coon dogs there. (No kidding.)

Natural carved smooth rock into slides from the water dumping us into pools. I don't know if it's still open or as much of a secret, we almost had the place to ourselves, don't remember any park fees back then. The best free natural water slides ever.

These are good, too.
