2021 is the projected reopening and FWIW Disney World laid off it's 70,000 workers last week.

According to whom? No one at Disney, I promise you. Just people making wild speculations.

If competitive cheerleading organizations are like most other travel sports organizations, making money is the top priority for them. It's what they do; it's why they exist. The best interests of your children is not one of their highest priorities. That's where you, the parent, come in. As a parent, I understand not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, especially if it's something of tremendous importance to your kids. But you can't necessarily depend upon a for-profit business doing what's best for your kids.

I suspect that if you had put all the money that you've put into competitive cheerleading into a college fund, you'd be better off, in terms of paying for your daughters' colleges. But hey, we all have things that interest us and are worth spending our money on. And if competitive cheerleading is worth it to you and your family, that's great. But I would hope that you didn't go into it solely for the hope of gaining a college scholarship, because doing so is not a prudent use of your money. I would regard a scholarship as being an incredibly nice bonus if it happens, but I wouldn't base my college-funding plans on it.

Although it hasn't been said (that I know of) that Covid was present in Florida in January, I truly believe my brother picked it up down there, quite possibly at Disney World.

So many people touching SO many handrails, etc, I wouldn't go near it until there are little to no deaths in the world.

It's asking for trouble to go there IMO.

Good call. I definitely would not hop on a plane and travel to a competition right now. Too much risk and uncertainty. I'm sure your kids are disappointed but life isn't always fair.

No doubt, competitive chearleading is expensive. Very expensive.

My daughter finally grew out of it. Was it worth it? Well, my motive is it kept her away from boys. LOL. It's almost like military school, the discipline it requires, the never ending practices, the physical challenges. That's why I wish the title was changed, people are still discussing Disney and it's really not about that at all. It's about the competition, not about Disney. No one cares - Disney Magic Kingdom will be open, or it won't. It's about - does a coach or private cheerleading organization push it's kids so hard as to attend something that is potentially dangerous. And yes it's about money - Varsity makes money selling $40 t-shirts, videos, tickets. It's a money machine. The kids love it, hey it did install discipline. But, it's also almost cult-like.
However, my daughter was getting injured, started to get health problems, had to pay for a chiropractor. That's even before the virus. So we are getting into issues that are beyond the scope of this thread - WHICH IS NOT ABOUT DISNEY WORLD.
My final advice to the OP - don't be pressured into anything, particularly your coach, or the other team mothers (who, again, can take this much more serous then it needs to be). Do what you think is best.

The OP decided not to go, and it was her family's decision. So that was the right approach and the right decision.

No.
Once was enough. It's NOT the happiest place on Earth.
Overrated. Expensive. I needed a vacation after the vacation.
Frankly, I'd rather have a root canal without anesthesiology than endure another two days at Disney.
The grands and I will find somewhere else to go for entertainment.

No reopening date set, but they are taking reservations for stays beginning June 1:

I think you made the right call OP. I wouldn't go either.

After laying off most of the workforce, I can't see reopening anytime this summer.

A lot of companies have furloughed their workers. I wouldn't think it would take much time at all to get all the workers back to Disney. Definitely not something that would take months.
