I once tried to cram the Phoenix area, Tucson, Tombstone, Bisbee, and Naco (had never seen the border) into a 2 and a half day trip on a super cheap flight. Naco --> Phoenix the last night was 220 mi, 3.5 hrs.

Was glad I got to see all that stuff, not sure if I'd do it again lol.

Flew into Cancun, I drove from Cancun to Tulum which was around 1hr 45min drive. And then we drove from Tulum to Chichen Itza which was around another 2 hours, including getting lost once. We did this back in 2007. I don't think I would do this currently, but looking back it was fun at times.

Two longish ones that I can recall -

Amsterdam to Barcelona via a roundabout route, around 3400 miles. Map

Newark to Seattle, around 3100 miles. Map.

The European drive was in a leased Renault and took place over around 5 weeks. The transcontinental drive was in a rented Ford Escape and took 4 1/2 days.

I attended a week long training course for my work in Boston. Flew to Boston, attended the course, then drove a rental through New England up the coast and to Acadia National Park and back through NH White Mountains, Vermont, and Sturbridge for a ten day vacation. Have also flown to visit my sister in Central Oregon and we have then driven the Oregon and/or Washington coasts in her vehicle - once to the San Juan Islands taking the ferry. Offered to pay for a rental but she prefers her own vehicle.

Should have mentioned that when I visit relatives in Central Oregon, it is a 3 1/2 hour drive from the Portland airport. I can fly there but it is more expensive and the flight times are horrible (very early or very late in the day) and I enjoy the drive, especially driving over the Cascade Mountain range.

I cannot even remember. 1,000's of miles on multiple occasions in rental cars from places I flew into. Both business and pleasure.

You limit to places you fly into but even renting a car east of the 'sip from where I live I've driven to California, Montana, New Mexico twice..and back in a rental cars...heck so many times I can't remember. So many miles I can't measure.

Flew into Seattle, drove north/east thru a couple of Canadian parks to end up in Banff Natl Park, then south to Glacier Natl Park in Montana, then back west thru Cascades Park, and around the Olympic Peninsula before returning the car. We were out for a month, but this was years ago -- don't most rental companies put distance limits on you nowadays?
