We are traveling up 95N from GA to MA. In our 2 stops, we have stayed at $100+ $30 to $80 for pets, hotels and they have been sorely lacking. We do mind paying extra for our small dog, but when we do, we do not expect to be relegated to an inferior room.
I’m looking for dog friendly hotels that offer me the same standard as non dog friendly hotels do.
Try La Qunita, I have never had a room issue and they generally don't charge extra for pets. I have had some room issues with Best Western but it seems to be mostly in the mid-west, Drury Inns tend to be good also but they charge for pets. It all depends on the property and I heavily research before booking rather than just stopping for the night.
Thanks. I did pre book, based upon past experiences with BW and Comfort Inn. They have never let us down until this trip. I’ll check on La Quinta and Drury. We like to stay with the same flavor hotels if possible because of points.
Really, I think the Covid thing has set the hotel quality way back.
Years ago, i owned a website that specialized in hotels that werevdig friendly.
Unless one is looking at luxury properties, La Quinta was nearly always #1. Red Roof was #2. Motel 6 was, umm, only if no other choices exist (read: You're traveling with more than 2 pets.)
Are all LaQunita motels dog friendly? That would certainly be an upgrade over Red Roof which is where we always stay.
That used to be true, and you didn't have a pet fee, either. When Wyndam bought LaQuinta (2018, I think), they changed the policy. There are some LaQuinta's that don't allow pets (but there is some indication that if you call directly, they may make exceptions). It's up to the specific hotel if they want to charge a pet fee - $20/night, with a maximum of $40 per room per stay (I think). They also have weight limits, which also may be negotiable.
It's too bad. LaQuinta was a great solution when we traveled with our dog. Regardless of the hotel chain, I would be verifying IN WRITING what the pet policy is and what the pet fees are. Nothing worse than getting information on a phone call, and finding out it's incorrect. email is a wonderful thing.
Drury Inn is the best deal these days. Nice places with breakfast and a light late afternoon snack that can be a meal if you are not hungry for more variety. No fee for pets either last time we used one. They are a flyover secret we do not usually let the coastal folks know about lol.
Be aware some of the others have weight limits too.
When we travel with our dogs we always stay at a Residence Inn - they're very dog friendly. We travel with three small dogs and usually book a one bedroom suite. If the one bedroom suites are sold out we'll get a two bedroom and there's not a big difference in the price. The dogs have plenty of room to roam around and we get an extra bathroom which is never a bad thing.

Thanks for this. If i recall Red Roof had a weight restriction, at the time we had a 100 pound long coat shepherd that was over the limit but I figured they didn't have a scale. We just kept her low key and never had a problem.
