I've signed up for a geology-oriented tour of Santorini this fall, but the tour is probably going to end up being canceled (not enough other people signing on) and I'm not sure I want to go solo. But it is sooo tempting because all the usual crowds will not be there!
I suspect that is true for a lot of travelers: on the one hand, itching to get out and wanting to take advantage of the relative lack of crowds, on the other hand, put off by the added complexity of the travel arrangements and the uncertainty about how the new COVID variants are going affect things over the summer/fall. To go or not to go, that is the question!

Tho IMO this uncertainty is passing....AND ppl are starting to jump in. It’s been too long & we want to get back to “normal”. There has been good news about vaccines & variants so far...especially Pfizer.
Flight options using miles for AA are garbage and (points) expensive. I think we're going to wait for 30-60 days and see if fares come down/travel times get better.

Right now the flight options and cost in miles (and in cash) is bad for all 3 major airline alliances. I don't anticipate the situation getting any better, unfortunately.
This is what we’re going to do....AND July & August are the worst months for Paris anyway. I’ve been doing my homework & looking at hotel availability for us in October & November.^^
July is great for Paris and this July will be the best remaining in our lifetime with low level of tourists.

From what I’ve heard from my husband & ppl who have been to Paris a lot AND from all the reading I’ve been doing about it because I’m super excited about it...July & August can be crowded with tourists AND it’s traditional for many of the locals to leave for weeks or a month. It’s rare to hear French spoken then. My husband speaks French...so....I really want the full experience & not just the touristy part AND I don’t want to be packed in like sardines at the exhibits & museums or have long lines if they monitor capacity.
Tho it’s possible not as many locals will leave this summer & it’s also possible not as many tourists ofc, BUT we are planning for the fall anyway to give it a little time to come back to “normal” AND for 6 months between our vacations. He wouldn’t be able to get away again before then.^^

Europe is not nearly as vaccinated as the US, especially with Pfizer, and the Delta strain is causing the infection rate to rise again in the UK, despite their high vaccination rate.
I guess what you have to accept if you choose to travel is the possibility of being there when a lockdown is imposed, as they just did in Lisbon.
The whole world want to get back to normal but things are not normal.

I can totally think of worse things than being locked down in Paris with my husband....AND we aren’t planning to go until the fall.
