I just booked a room 40 minutes from London via tube.... 33£ for a freshly refurbished w/ breakfast. We have 6 additional nights via guest homes @ $20/ night including dinner and breakfast. All within an hour of London. If we run out of nice National Trust sites (free). We'll venture back into London. We spent a day there inbound. Airport Luggage storage for 2 carry-ons was our largest expense.

Thinking about the logistics of freestyle travel back then, it's amazing that all we had to go by was Arthur Frommer and Thomas Cook and our Eurail passes. Now it's all dependent on the internet and the unlimited railpasses are no more.

I'm glad I did it all when I was young enough to tolerate all the misadventures. They make for great recounting, but I'm not up for impromptu riverside camping anymore. And I'm over the beds that make you sleep back-to-back with your bedmate because they sag so much in the middle!
