The other people on the flight are definitely the worst part. I can deal with the small seats, lack of food, tiny bathrooms. The other passengers can drive me nuts though.
The worst flight I can remember was a flight from London to New York. The lady in front of me decided that the plane was a good place to do her nails. I got to inhale nail polish fumes for like 6 hours. That was a blast.
Momoftwo~ good one! I get annoyed when you have 2 people traveling together and takes the window and aisle seat hoping to keep the middle open. Well the flight was full and guess who ends up between them. The entire flight they're holding conversations over me. I even politely asked if they would like to switch seats to continue thier conversation but of course they declined. So then I whip out my crossstitching which always gets people nervous with that needle!

Did you complain about the nail polish? I don't think that is allowed on flights - at least it shouldn't be! That stuff can be toxic!

I didn't complain. I was a young teenager when it happened and the lady looked mean. These days I wouldn't have any trouble complaining. I'm not sure why the flight attendants or anyone else in the vicinity didn't say anything.
That sounded like a terrible flight you were on. I have seen people that are drunk and lots and lots of crying kids. I have seen lousy service both in the airport and on the plane. I don't fly much to begin with any longer, maybe twice a year at most. In fact I don't care to fly any more. I have become so disgusted with both the behaviour of the airlines and the passengers both. I flew to the east coast in June, during and after that trip I knew I had come to the point that flying was coming to an end for me. That is why I am on city data to begin with, so I can move closer to the east coast, and won't have to make these long trips back there any longer. I simply cannot stand flying anymore.

Yep, I've seen that same thing before. Drives me NUTS!!! On one of our recent flights with all 4 of us traveling I booked the 3 seats on one side and the aisle directly across. Well, this family of 3 (small child about 1 1/2) booked the other 2 and the aisle behind them. The man said to my husband, can I have your seat so I can sit with my family. He looked at him and said, "that is my family too right here beside me". Anyway, hubby exchanged seats w/ him anyway just so he would not be sitting by the toddler and not knowing how he was going to act. We just made sure to talk PLENTY between the two of us across the aisle .
Oh, and then on another of our recent flights w/ all 4 I booked the center/aisle seats across from each other. Someone who had booked one of the window seats wanted to change with our aisle seat.........um, no. If you don't like the window then book another seat.
Now, what to do when you have the center seat between two people that know each other and want to converse and they won't exchange if you politely OFFER it to them (different than just asking to exchange but offering to let them sit by each other is the way to go ). I'd dig out my personal DVD or Ipod and let'er rip. Sing along to every song, talk back to the movie, etc.
Nah, really I'm not that bad on flights and don't mind much at all. The ONLY time I did complain I had every right to and I should have and could have made a MUCH bigger stink about it. The worst part was the flight attendants were PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!! Any other flight I've been on these drunk, loud, obnoxious, cuss words blaring, crude, sexual overtones coming out of their mouths LOUDLY, etc along w/ using the backs of our seats for a DRUM would have been escorted OFF THE PLANE!!! But NO............. the flight attendants were cheering them on practically and offering them EXTRA DRINKS!!!!
A buddy of mine just sent me a page full of 'flying' jokes, and I know Mike would like this one:

LOL.. forward that email to me, I'm sure I'd enjoy reading it.
I can definitely come up with a few more that would make passengers nervous, like:
- I wonder what this button does? <click> Ooops..
- [At cruise altitude telling the flight attendant] Yeah, I'd like a scotch and soda, and get a JD and Coke for the first officer!
- [Captain to first officer at cruise altitude] I think we're low on gas..
- [Captain to first officer] I got pulled over for reckless driving last week..

MKAL, no, the flight attendants cant do a thing about it. Unless the passengers were being threatening, drunk, hostile, unsafe or way too crazy we cant do a thing for you. Being rude and too chatty does not qualify. Having been a passenger and having observed these types at work, you have my sympathy. However, in this age of law suits, etc, we have no control over just the annoying ones. Sorry.
I just thank God that cell phones aren't allowed on planes (and are not yet technologically feasible to use at 35,000 feet over the Atlantic). Seeing a plane full of idiots with bluethooths strapped on and talking non-stop at maximum volume would instigate instant air rage.
