Elderly Perth couple used as $7m drug mules after competition 'win'
A PERTH couple who were unwittingly conned into become multi-million dollar drug mules after winning a dream trip to Canada feared they could have spent the rest of their lives in prison.
The elaborate con duped the couple by taking them to Canada as 'winners' of an all-expenses paid trip, which included accommodation and new luggage.
I don't understand how this was supposed to be pulled off. How would the drugs have reached the end source? Was someone supposed to meet them back in Australia and sneak it out of their luggage?
There was someone waiting in the arrivals area in Perth to meet them, Probably 'as part of the prize a limo would take them home' then grab the bags, kill them, and bury then to never be seen again.
It's a good thing that this happened to an elderly couple instead of some younger couple or especially a younger single person. They probably woulda got at least some time behind bars.

Good thing it wasn't Indonesia..could have been death!!
Lesson here: be careful when you pack your luggage and be extra diligent that no one else touches your luggage from the time you pack until your bags are handed over at the ticket counter.
I suspect that explosives are a bigger worry than drugs, because the dope dealers can hire mules and not have to worry about how to recover their drugs. But still, don't give strangers access to your luggage.
