Hi - I will be driving from Boston to Phoenix, and a storm just hit. If anyone has suggestions on how to do this successfully I would greatly appreciate it! I have a set of snow tires, but on a rear wheel drive car. I'm hoping someone can advise me as to the best route to avoid snow/ice. And, of course, we are trying to do this before Xmas. Thanks!

BTW - I also posted this in the weather section, hope that's ok.

Thank you so much for the advice!

95 - it's by the coast, will that end up being a problem? does proximity to water = being hit more by snow, or is that wrong? I'm an Arizona girl, not a lot of experience with snow

When I was looking around at other sites I saw recommendations to do 81 to 40 (we'd of course have to drop down somewhere to get to 10). 81 to 40 seems shorter than 81/95 to 10, but 81 goes through the Appalachian mountains - would I regret that?

Thanks again...

Snow doesn't come inland from the Atlantic Ocean, since the prevailing wind is from the west, not from the east... Snow comes from Canada.
You'll stay informed if you watch weather.com for forecasts, and for additional fun, Google for webcams along your route.
You'll apparently also want to Google weather and webcams in the Appalachians.

Rand McNally has a great site for driving directions and AAA if you are a member will send you trip tickets. Just tell them which way you want to go and what you want to avoid. The I-95 route is nice and no, you will not get snow. I-95 isn't near the ocean.
