On busses, trains, aircraft, and ships my wife and I sit together and stay close even if we can roam around. We like the physical contact. It's also nice not to have to go searching for one-another's hand when the plane flys through an air pocket and free-falls for a few thousand feet or your train hits something, jolting and rocking like it's going to derail (both of which has happened to us).

Having an airline triple together is nice, because she can stretch out and lean on me, helping her sleep better. I can sleep anywhere, anytime, so I don't mind taking the middle or sitting upright while she reclines.

How long is the flight? A few hours? We'd sit together. 8 hours? We'd probably sit together at first but then move apart for some more space eventually.

As gassy as my husband is, the further away the better.

I sit pretty much where I want no matter who I'm traveling with. Unless the other person is afraid of flying; in which case I would try to sit nearby. Guess I'm just not co-dependent and don't require the constant assurance from my hubby. I like meeting new people and talking to new people or just sitting quietly with my thoughts. Or reading. I don't need anyone but God holding my hand during turbulence or in the event of "something" worse.

Amen to that! I like an empty seat between me and the other person anyway. Sitting on top of one another on a long flight is very uncomfortable to begin with!

I guess some couples are comfortable in each other's arms, some people are more comfortable apart since they have their faith in God, Vishnu, or the Tooth Fairy to keep them company. To each their own.

We'd leave the middle seat open and not think twice about it.

Now when I travel by myself, I'll sit in the middle seat if the row was empty. One reason, is that it is generally less used than the aisle/window seats. Second reason, people would be less likely to sit with me!
