My wife and I cannot agree on a destination for Spring Break; our eldest child started school in 2008, and so this is the first time we have to adhere to the vacation schedule of the rest of the population.
So a friend of ours is offering a Time Share that expires at the end of March, so the room will not cost anything, though we would reimburse my friend for the yearly maintenance fee, so our stay for a week would only be $300.00, no matter where we go.
Now my wife is considering taking the kids (three) to Disney World in Orlando. I've been there as an adult, without children, and it was not Spring Break, and it was a cluster f***! I vowed next time that I would stay on the property just so I can pay up and skip the lines, even if only short lines for a couple of hours.
So, do any of you have any experience going to Disney World during Spring Break? Good, or bad accounts welcomed.
My wife's efforts have been towards Disney World, mine have been either skiing, or a beach somewhere in Mexico, or the Caribbean, possibly even Hawaii. The kids will have fun, and so will we. I just can't see having much fun waiting for 45 minutes, or more for a ride that lasts, at most, two minutes! The Time Share is valid at many places around the world as well.
was there during a college spring break and in fact went with college students during the spring break. Have been there other times and didn't really notice any difference. That's not to say there isn't a difference in other parts of Orlando during Spring Break, as I feel sure some of the hotels,beach areas and probably bars are CrAzY

We went during Spring Break a few years back with our children and I noticed the crowds a bit. We went early in the morning and went back to the hotel around lunch. Hung out until around 4PM and then went back. Did we wait for the busses? YES. Did we wait in lines? YES. Were there lots of college kids acting silly? YES. But my kids had a blast. We didn't see everything but we saw what we wanted and just spent a large part of the time hanging by the pool and relaxing...because that's what vacation's about!
I've been there twice at spring break and it really wasn't that bad. We had to wait in lines, but not excessive lines. Now Christmas is another story. I will NEVER go there at Christmas time again.
I LOVE Disney World! I would go 6 times a year if I could. We were there this past March during Spring Break. It was crowded but Disney has a good handle on crowd control. They were open longer hours, had additional employees (than they would have during slow season), and operated all of their available buses and monorail trains. It does seem to be a good idea to head out early in the morning then back to the hotel at lunch and play around the pool and the grounds. There's so much to do there it can be overwhelming. We're heading back to WDW first week of February, can't wait! Good luck and have fun wherever you choose to go.
Disney World at any time is great if you have enough energy and patients to wait and see the park all the way through. You will need more than one day to do that, but it is worth it. I have never been when it has not been overcrowded. Although, I think the crowds are part of the fun and add to the excitement. I think Spring Break is an excellent time to go and so does a whole lot of other people.... If you decide to go, you should also plan to do see some other sights while you're in Florida. You will have many to choose from. Good luck
1. Forget getting Hawaii. It is probably not availabe this late in the game. I've been waiting to exchange for Hawaii for over 6 months. If your friend has not already requested it........... you won't get it.
2. Mexico is fine. Try Cabo San Lucas with the kids. We have been w/ the kids and been MANY TIMES! Our timeshare is in Cabo and we LOVE IT! Kids love it. Not a HUGE spring break destination for 1000's of college spring breakers.
3. Disney World. We went in November the week of Thanksgiving. Stayed off property at a condo that was 5 minutes from the gate. RUN and get the latest edition of the book "The Unofficial Guide to Disney World". Find the touring plans that best suit your family and go by it. We knocked out each park in 1 day including Magic Kingdom. Not a ride we missed and not bad waits either. The longest wait we had was for the park to open while waiting at the ropes that morning. Do as they say.......... arrive EARLY! During holiday times your going to be there an hour before they open waiting. By doing this by the time your done w/ lunch and ride a few more......... you have seen all of the high spots and can kick it down a few gears and use the FastPasses you have obtained but not needed/used. We saw plenty of areas that were the "cluster f***" but we pushed right thru those mobs of people that seemed to be lost, bedazzled, dazed, confused, whatever. We did the "Authors Selective 1 Day Touring Plan" at the 4 parks and even got to ride some of the headliner rides more than once.
Whatever you decide do it FAST!!!!!!! Most timeshares need to be booked at least 60 days out. Even if you do stay on property you don't get to skip any lines. You only get the Extra Magic Hours and sometimes it is best to avoid the parks w/ the Extra Magic Hours that day. Are you sure your friends timeshare is good for a Disney Property though? They have their own timeshare thing going on.
There will be lines at Disney, but they do know how to handle crowds. You just need at least 4 or 5 days, and some patience!
We went at Easter once---it was crowded, but still doable!
there will be lines, but the weather will be so pleasant, you won't mind as much. We had to always go during august because our older son was an athlete and that was the only time he could get a way. as a senior, he gave up track, so we went during spring break. it was a nice experience.

Thanks! This is good information for us. We will forget Hawaii not because of availability, but because tickets are pretty high for that time frame, about $1200 p/p. Cabos sounds nice, that is where my friend goes to often. The timeshare is a Marriott property, are you familiar with those?
