NEW YORK — "You're not going to be impressed," warns desk clerk Steve Nuñez, handing over the key to Room 807 and a $128 receipt for a night's stay at New York's Hotel Carter. "Most people don't spend much time in their rooms."
I stay at the Carter Hotel frequently when I'm in NYC, and I don't think it's that bad. It's not for everybody, but if you've traveled in poorer parts of the world, it's on a par with tourist class hotels in many of those countries. I always meet a lot travelers from Asia, Central America, and Africa when I stay at the Carter, and they don't seem to mind the conditions. It's only $99 a night for a single, and it's a block or two off Time Square.
Last time I stayed there I was surprised to find a mint on my pillow in the evening ... although I'm pretty sure it fell out of the mouth of the guy who slept there the night before. ;-)
some of it doesn't look too too bad, but in some people's review pictures there were dead rats on the carpet...bugs I might be able to handle but not dead mice or rats..ick!
