That information was just in our local newspaper this past week. In 2008, in the U.S., there had been no fatal plane crashes in the past 2 1/2 years up until the one that went down a few weeks ago in Buffalo, New York. I think there were 6 fatalities in the U.S. on private planes in '08, but didn't try and remember all the details of the article as I didn't know there would be a question on it.
The most dangerous country for crashes and fatalities was by far Asia, with the U.S., and other western countries be the safest by a wide margin. I wish I could find the aritcle, but it was in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
