Hi all! I'm hoping I could get your opinions and advice. I'm planning a vacation for either May or June and can't decide where to go. I've never been to any of the islands. I'm looking for great beaches and some things to do. I think I've narrowed it down to USVI, Caymans, or Bahamas. Some of the other islands seem to have pricier airfares. I know I've heard some people say go somewhere other than the Bahamas, but not sure why. What would you recommend. It's just going to be my best friend and I for a girls trip. How are prices on the hotels on these islands? I know I could save money on airfare and then the accomadations could be more expensive than somewhere else, so it may all be relative. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you .

I have been on several cruises and would say you can't go wrong with Cayman or USVI if those are your choices. I am just not a fan of the Bahamas, or at least Nassau because it is so commercial, you might as well just go to Miami Beach. If you are not adverse to a cruise, they really are good for getting you a taste of different islands. I have flown to different islands and stayed before and I do suggest if you can go to an all-inclusive resort, food in the islands is real expensive and not very good,so I prefer to know I can just go to one place with a great beach, decent food and drink and not worry about anything. I went to Couples Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and it was wonderful, no kids running around screaming and yelling, it was a true vacation!

Skip Nassau/Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I've heard some of the other islands in the Bahamas are nice, like Eleuthera, though.

Of the areas you mentioned though, I'd recommend the USVI, and in particular St. John if possible. If not St. John, go for St. Thomas over St. Croix. From St. John or St. Thomas, it might be possible for you to ferry across to one of the best beach bars in the world, the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, BVI.

The Grand Cayman Island has beautiful beaches and a very nice supermarket with tons of fresh foods. When I was there I snorkeled, swam, drank Coronas and even did a spot rock climbing (very badly I might add).

Thanks for all the great info! I was doing some comparison shopping on expedia the other day and it seemed one of the cheaper trips was to Barbados. I did a search on here about it, but didn't come up with anything. Has anyone been? Is there anything to do there? Looking at their website it didn't seem to have much to do. If anyone has been to Myrtle Beach, SC or even like Fl for a vacation knows there are a lot of things to do after a day at the beach like walking around the stores or other attractions. Which islands have this? Thanks again.

I have to agree with Guntersville Boomer that the best way to see the various islands is doing a cruise. You get enough time at each port to see some of each island. Plus, you only have to unpack and pack once.

You mentioned you were looking at USVI. I got to visit St. Thomas and had a very nice time there. I did a pirate tour that told of the history of various famous or infamous pirates that made port at St. Thomas. I thought it was really neat. Also, there are some outstanding views from the top of the hills of St. Thomas. I'd definitely go there again.

It could be that Barbados is giving good deals because it so far away. Almost to South America. My brother and his wife found to trip to Cozamel, Mexico for late April for about $1000.00 each that included airfare and an "all inclusive beach hotel". Sounded good to me and it's pretty close to the USA.

YES, I do. I have been several places. My husband and I have found that Jamaica all inclusive resorts are definantly the best for our money and we love the jamaican people and attitudes. It gets a bad wrap for crime but thats only if you go into rual areas without a quide. We have been twice this year and and already have another tripped booked in June. We had our honeymoon at Sandals Grande Ochos Rios, for Thankgiving we went to the Grande Palladium with a group of friends. WE are going back to the Palladium b/c it's brand new not at full capacity and have amazing discounts!!! Book using cheapcarribean.com. If you want alot of activities stay in Ochos Rios, everything is there, Dunns River Falls is a must. Negril is the prettiest and has the best beach the Grand Palladuim is about 30 min away. I have tons of tons of Jamaica travel advise but the best advise is to stay at an all inclusive resort where your food, alcohol, and activities are included...youll never stay in a hotel again. The Grand Palladium is brand new and has wonderful food, Sandals is more for couples and they kiss your butt a little more. Tell me more of what your looking for? Google these places and definantly check cheap carribbean out. Hope this Helps, Sarah
