My best friend is turning 25 at the end of this year and we need some idea for a vacation.......we like warm weather, beaches, nightlife. We are just looking to have fun and to do something different and catch some warm weather preferably on a beach. We are hoping for it to be our group of friends but it may end up being just her and I.
At the top of our list in no particular order was Vegas, D.R., Puerto Rico, Costa Rica. What are you thoughts? Any other ideas? BTW we havent been to any of these places yet.
Vegas would be the best. Obviously no ocean beaches, but great pools, many of which have beaches (sand beaches, yes). Great weather, great nightlife, great value for the $$$, easy and fun - everything at your disposal 24/7 (except the sunshine and pools, obviously). Pool parties are fun, every kind of restaurant from fast food to buffets to high end. Even buffets run from small and cheap to big and lavish and expensive.
Entertainment ranges from small, free performances in lounges just off the casinos (Venetian has a nice little lounge tucked in a corner of the casino, it's free as long as you have a drink, it's mellow with good tunes and such comfortable and lavish chairs and sofas) to smaller shows in small venues that cost less to the big productions like Cirque du Soleil and the big-name acts like Celine or Toni Braxton.
Bars and nightclubs range from casual to very upscale with high cover charges and massive amounts of space for dance floors, lounges etc. within the club. Really EVERYTHING you could want in between those extremes is available. You want a dance club but not the uppity upscale ones? They have those. You want a lounge but nothing too fancy? They have them. You want the most upscale lounge with bottle service, etc.? Take your pick.
Getting around is easy by car or cab or even by bus and monorail.
You just can't go wrong with Vegas. Pools are open from April/May thru October, I believe, so if you go in that time, you pretty much will sleep in every day, get breakfast, hit the pool, swim and lie out by the pool all day... Later you'll grab dinner, wherever, then you'll get ready and go out. Throw in some gambling whenever you want, if you want.
Also, if you need some time away from that, Vegas offers plenty of other options. Go boating on Lake Mead. Hike in Valley of Fire or Red Rock (or just drive through and enjoy the beauty from the Air Conditioned car). Exploer the Mojave. See Hoover Dam. Visit Spring Mountain Ranch. Plenty of options.
You'll be very satisfied with a trip to Vegas. If that doesn't work for someone, I don't know what would.
Costa Rica. Vegas is just so tired. Plus, how much fun can you have when it's all just so cheesy (and your luggage will smell like stale cigarette smoke and a bowling alley for weeks)? I've been to Vegas on every kind of jaunt (bachelorette parties, a wedding, girls weekend and to visit a friend) and while they are trying to make it more "upscale", it's just the same lights, money clinging, bells ringing, trashy people, drunk people, and workers handing out porn pamphlets on every corner.
Costa Rica is getting more popular, but it's a great memory to have with friends. Amazing weather, great beaches, a semi happening nightlife (or at least enough alcohol available to keep you happy) and tons of stuff to do. I was there last year with friends who won a vacation package and nearly everyone on our plane was traveling in a group for one reason or another.

Miami is kewl but I dont think she'd want to do that for her 25th besides we both bee nthere before. But Vegas is not sounding to bad to me...we'll see about her. LOL.
I think she is just looking to plan something that she will remember I mean 25 is a turning point so the celebration has to memorable and special. And we are not trying to spend a ton of money.lol. I'll save europe and or some real pricey trip for my 30 in a few years....right now its just fun sun and relaxing for a reasonable priced vacay if there is such a thing.

Initially I said Costa Rica, but since you are trying not to spend too much money, I would take that off your list. Costa Rica has some cheap areas, but unless you are an amazing traveler, you'll have to book some sort of package in order to not stress yourself out and see some things. My friend and I went on a Vacations by Disney trip which allowed us to say at some amazing hotels, do a zip line tour through the rainforest, white water raft, have lots of meals paid for, etc etc. The package is about $2000 a person and that doesn't include airfare.
If you are trying to go cheap, you won't have much fun in Costa Rica.

Its not so much cheap but not 2grand either...last year I went on a cruise for 4days 3 nights and stayed in Miami for 2nights 2days and the whole trip minus food cabs etc was about $600 each person. I thought that was cheap for a 5 day trip. I guess we are looking to spend maybe $1000 each person.....I think that is reasonable enough
