My Samsonite luggage (1 piece) looks like it was ran over with a mac truck, seriously. Everything was packed nice and neat… BUT the straps and lining (or frame) of the luggage is broke. Is this worth contacting Delta? (I doubt they will even care..)
Yes probably worth it, if it hasn't been too long since your flight. Take some digital pictures, send it to them. Make sure you contact the correct people. Really you should have identified this at the airport when you picked up your luggage, you would have had no problems then. They would reimburse for obviously damaged luggage.
The flight was last Wednesday but Delta lost my luggage then returned it on Thursday. The guy who dropped off the bag advised me to file a complaint, but he did not really seem to care at all. Thanks

I think that most airlines require that you contact them within 24 hours. If the bag was that damaged the airlines will normally buy you a new piece or reimburse you based on the age of the bag. It's easy for them to buy you a new one as they get very good prices on them because of the volume of business they do.
I got new Samsonite suitcase from an airline (don't remember which one) as it looked like they used it as a wheel chock for a 747. I also went to their office at the baggage claim area at O'Hare as soon as I got it off the carousel. The actually had the new suitcase delivered to me while I was still in the Chicago area, which was nice since one latch wouldn't work at all.
filing a complaint is def the way to go, but make sure you do it the right way. file a formal complaint in small claims court. follow the step by step guide at Sue the Airline - Got Airline Complaints? More Families Sue Airlines

He is a delivery boy. I would but expect a excuse .
From our personal exp with Delta Airlines,
Delta does not make a move to help if there is any wiggle room to not do so luggage wise
they left me many days in the dark about where my baggage actually ended up
(7 flights around the midwest according to all the tags on the handle)
inspite of a firm promise from their own customer direct line we never actually
received the bag until after flying back to seattle
we had flown over to see my mom off before she past, the bag fiasco proved to be ever present during that visit
mostly because Delta would call and promise daily the arrival, only later we would upon not recieving the bag have to wait
on hold for literally hours on end,wht a waste of our time here, poor service, low priority to faithfully serve as these people would almost beggingly suggest they do
as of this date, no settlement, and by this they specifically have avoided any direct responsibility for their actions
lied, later even tried to blame their companion airline for final responsibility until we pointed out the bag flew by itself on their airlines(Delta)to 7 or more cities(can anyone ever believe this really?),and now have cheated us out right by not making this right GD you Delta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This corporation should not be allowed the right to operate in the USA period!
