I commented about this in the other air france thread on this forum, but I still have yet to see the press release any photos of the wreckage from flight 447...

Very weird whats going on. Why is it taking so long for them to release these pics. They have already admitted that an airline seat, part of the fuselage, an oil streak, and plastic pieces from the aircraft have been spotted. So far we have only seen the oil streak photo.

Anyone else think the media is handling this a bit strangely... something just seems weird about it.

The wreckage is in the middle of the ocean. From what I read Brazil recovered some pieces..Maybe Brazil has not released the photos yet to spare the victim's families which would be respectful imo

What is wrong with people not wanting us to see evidence of the wreckage???

We need to know whats going on here. that is the job of the press. not to act as psychologist and shield us from reality...

unbelievable...

Probably because, at this point, it's a military recovery operation by Brazil, and France. Brazil doesn't operate on the same constraints of answering to the media that the U.S. does. Things work slower down there and the government would probably laugh at some of the demands that the U.S. media places on our government.
Plus, it's not like Charles Gibson was sitting in a raft in the middle of the Atlantic with a film crew.

And how do you suggest the press get out to some godforsaken area of the Atlantic Ocean??
The media will have to wait until Brazil or France release pics if they have any

Funny you mention that. Irony is, when 911 happened, the FBI immediately went around to areas where surveillence cameras were set and confiscated all film from all cameras from all 3 of the areas that surrounded the scenes. The only footage we had was their own personal footage that they took.
But on the flip side, they probably dont want to publicize anything, yet, if at all, until things are confirmed as part of the wreckage, and to add to families' grief.
But, who knows......

I dont see the irony or similiarity. And I have seen security camera footage from 9/11 (pentagon, etc).

I'm not sure what good pictures would do at this time to help the public deal with this tragedy or investigators figure out what happened. I think everybody needs to know the information that's on the Flight Data Recorder, and the Cockpit Voice Recorder (FDR and CVR) or the black boxes as they're better known, to figure out what caused this catastrophy. The only data they have so far is there was one failure after another in every system on the A330, and the flight crew basically had no control of the aircraft whatsoever.

I read on another website that a Spanish flight crew on a flight from Lima, Peru, to Madrid, Spain, and were not too far behind the Air France Airbus, they said they saw a bright light in the distance ahead of them, then they saw a streak of fire that spiraled downards towards the Atlantic.

What a horrible thing to have to witness. Can that possibly lead too, to more speculation of something more than fowl weather?
