The first officer and a relief pilot, who was in the jump seat, landed the Boeing 777.
It's not unusual to have a relief crew member in the flight deck on trans-oceanic flights.
There were two doctors onboard, one was a cardiologist. They used an AED, and couldn't bring him back. Even if he had been at home it doesn't sound like he could have been saved. My thoughts go to his family and friends.

Unfortunately that is what the system has produced. I'm one of those pilot mill types.
