This weekend, I booked a last minute trip on priceline with their name your own price option. I got a GREAT deal (almost 75% off the published fare). Of course, the only drawback to booking on priceline is that you often times have to travel at odd times.
I was booked a round trip ticket on American Airlines. On my outbound flight, I was placed on a late evening flight. I would prefer to travel a little earlier if possible. I called American to see if by some odd chance, they could change the flight (I didn't hold my breath, but figured it was worth a try). The reservation agent told me that priceline reservations cannot be changed and that I am unable to fly standby.
I checked and there are several seats on the flight that departs earlier. Has anyone ever booked a priceline ticket (American Airlines) and attempted to fly standby for an earlier flight? I'm wondering if I should just head out to the airport and take my chances? Surely, if there were seats available on an earlier flight, they would accomodate me if possible?
^^ It depend on the mode of the gate agent, Many airlines will sell your confirmed stand-by for 25/50$. But i would never pay it. If there are open seats it to the airlines benefit to get rid of you early, Let them re-sell , handle a over book on the later flight., I'v never paid to depart early. When gate agent say $25/50 i say no, Then more often then not they will put me on the standby list for free.
Hmmm... it sounds like I might have to chance it and hope that I get a helpful gate agent. The flight that I would like to get on leaves 3 hours before the flight I am booked on, so if nothing else, I could just wait a little longer at the airport, which is not the end of the world.
Yep, if they want to charge a change fee, take the $50 and buy a one day pass at a United club, sink some cocktails and eat, and use their free wi-fi, then get on the flight you were supposed to.

Not always. If the later flight minimum accepted fare under name your own price was $103.53 and the earlier flight was $122.89, if they are seeing a pattern of prior traveleers doing the name your own price for the later flight but swelling standby for the earlier flight or they just want to play stick-to-the-plan with Priceline travelers, they wil not accomodate you. Most times they will look at the potential of having an available seat on the next flight that can be sold but if historically its never sold out, they just may decide to make you take the flight you bid on.
