We are planning our honeymoon the first week or two in January 2010. We know we want to go to Sandals Resort in Antigua. Everytime I check the prices on the Sandals website the cost varies dramatically.
1. Is it best/cheaper to book it ahead of time, or wait until right before we want to go?
2. Should we consider hiring a travel agent? What can they do for us? Is it worth it?
Generally speaking, it is cheaper to book in advance than to wait until the last minute. I have seen people snag deals at the last minute though. If you know actually where you want to stay and when, I would call Sandals directly and find out the best deal they can give you. If your dates are more flexible then that is helpful. A travel agent can help you get the best deal so contacting someone would not be a bad idea either. You could also do a internet search for deals for the dates and the area in which you want to go. You would then have several options to choose from. Hope this helps!

Good advise
I might add the price flucuation is usually due to airline fares increases...Jan is the high season for the islands so hotels/air fare are not going to be cheap and the closer you get the higher the price uaually will be
There was an article recently on CNN about how travel agents are making a big comeback because booking online is very complicated and fee's are adding up online now. I would go with a travel agent ! Peace of mind. They are experts in what they do. Good luck and congrats !
