The Most DESOLATE and BORING Interstate Stretch? (Rome, photos, fishing)

I always used to think it was I-20 into Texas or I-70 through Kansas. But I was wrong. The worst is I-16 from Macon to Savannah Georgia. At least on the others you would see an occassional cow, pig, horse or barn. I-16 is just 170 miles of NOTHING but woods! No houses, no windmills- except for one town (Dublin) no signs of life for 170 miles! Any you know of?
Back in the mid-1970s my then husband and I drove through the state of Vermont on our way to Canada from NY. All we saw were cows, fertilizer, corn for sale, repeat. I'm betting there is a little more now. I don't remember what road we were on.
US 54 from Santa Rosa, NM to Alamogordo is pretty desolate. Nice scenery, but you can drive 3.5 hours without seeing another person. But it's not an interstate
I though I-80 from Lincoln, NE to Wyoming was really, really horriable. Then I drove 80 in Wyoming. Worse, but quite a few antelopes. Then I drove it through Nevada. Much worse...
I did see snow on Labour Day outside of Wells, NV though, and it was in the upper 90s.
Nevada doesn't get nice till you hit the Truckee river in Fernley
Funny, but all the things folks say are boring to them while traveling are just the things I would enjoy...thanks for all the suggestions on roads for me to take in the countryside/terrain...lol
Exactly my sentiments. While I dislike almost all heavily used interstates, remote, little utilized secondary roads are the ones that appeal most. Even better still if there is no radio or cell phone reception. As a Westerner, my adult driving experience has been limited to states from the Rockies to the Pacific, so cannot comment on remote or boring roads in other areas, but reading this thread has given me some tips should I ever find myself in these areas. Every now and then enjoy going back and reading the old posts on this thread. Have just done so, so now once again the urge to pack up and heed the "call of the open road" has descended.
most boring stretch is in South Dakota on I90 heading West from Betts to Mt Vernon, absolute quagmire of banality everywhere you look for nearly 6 miles, after that tho it's quite pleasant and heading East along the same stretch is downright exhilarating.
395 from Inyokern, CA (at the junction to the 14) going north is one of my favorite drives. Even the so called "boring" part through the Owens Valley is beautiful with the Sierra Nevada soaring majestically to the left! Much better than I-5, with its boring lack of scenery and malodorous livestock yards! (I know, I know, this thread is about interstates, and 395 is only a highway! )
I-55 from Coal City to St. Louis, I-57 from Kankakee to Effingham-gets hilly, wooded and more scenic south of Effingham.
The times I drove to Co for skiing, I-80 west of Lincoln was sleep inducing and I-76 the same.
I diasagree with poster saying I-65 through Al is. Too many hills and tress for me to find boring. Same with I-10 across FL panhandle- I would rather drive through forests than flat open prairie or falt open corn/bean fields
I-90 through South Dakota is the most boring stretch of highway I've ever been on, though I haven't traveled by road in much in the U.S., admittedly. However, the sunsets on that stretch of highway are beautiful, if you're heading west.
I've heard the same, many times, about I-80 through Iowa and Nebraska - an even longer stretch of road. Granted, I-90 through Southern Minnesota (except for the far eastern portion of the road) is basically the same thing.
I-5 in CA from the grapevine to the 580 junction
I-40 from Memphis TN until Little Rock AR
I-40 from Raleigh NC until Wilmington NC
I-40 from OKC until the NM/Texas border
I-81 Anywhere in VA from Roanoke to Winchester
