Most boring Interstate highway that I've been on:
The 40 miles of Interstate 84 between Twin Falls, Idaho and where I-86 branches off. 40 miles of farmfields and mostly straight highway. I've never been to Kansas, but according to what I've heard, I've come to the conclusion that this 40-mile stretch is the closest you can get to a Kansas-like highway west of the Rockies. Most boring non-Interstate highway that I've been on:
US Route 20 from Burns to Bend, Oregon. ~130 miles of largely straight road through the desert, with only two real places, Riley and Brothers (the latter mostly just having a rest area) to stop. What makes this worse is that most of the time I go this way, it is during the night. It's always such a relief to FINALLY get to Bend or Burns no matter what.
That highway thru Nebraska en route west to Colorado.
Lincoln Highway (US30)? yet to find any of the remote Midwestern or Western highways boring with the vistas that they offer. Now I95 through Florida with nothing but pines on either side for hour after hour holds nothing but mind numbing monotony in store for anyone traveling thru...
I-10 between Tallahassee and Pensacola
I-65 between Mobile and Montgomery
I have to drive I-75/I-10 several times a year and all I can think is "Panama City Beach next 285 exits". I think I could do it in my sleep.
The only thing that I can remember that was interesting was the dead llama on the road somewhere around the Mariana exit. All I could think was you know you're driving on a classier highway when there are dead llamas instead of deer......
I-95 thru Virginia....we don't (apparently) like roadside signs, so it's nothing but a long stretch of trees...and they aren't all that pretty. VERY boring!
Will concur with this impression, the 62/180 highway along this stretch makes it onto my most desolate roads list. West from about Guadalupe NP until the outskirts of El Paso, there is, as mentioned, very little to attract or hold your interest.
Though it's a non-US Highway, I recall and agree that part from Guadalupe NP to El Paso was boring, when I was traveling to Carlsbad Caverns years ago! Wish we also had stopped at Guadalupe NP all those years ago, but unfortunately the group I was with didn't.
My picks(and I WON'T narrow it to only a few):
I-16 from Macon to Savannah
I-10 from Tallahassee to Pensacola
Illinois Toll Road, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania Turnpikes(pro tip: take I-68 through West Virginia and Maryland over the PA Turnpike, if you can, which starts and ends to the west in Morgantown, WV. a LOT more scenic!)
I-65 from Gary to Indianapolis(heh, the drive I've done the most ever it seems! other than the part near Lafayette, IN, it is mostly boring except for seeing wind turbines. I do LIKE Fair Oaks Farms for a bite to eat, and that's VERY worth stopping at if you're driving on that part of I-65. great cheese to go too, and off of exit 220)
I-70 from Indy to Dayton, OH
pretty much any of the expressways in northern and central Illinois, when you're driving through the middle of that state and seeing nothing but farms
I-55 from Memphis north(and back) to Sikeston, MO(where I-55 and I-57 meet)
And back on page 10 of this thread, someone said all of I-24 was boring. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if I-24 north of Nashville was boring to where it ends in southern Illinois(which I hadn't traveled I think except for once, and that was way too long ago), but I strongly disagree about the part that's around Monteagle, TN. Which goes into the mountains, and actually has very nice scenery all the way starting from somewhere south of Manchester, TN, till you get to the Chattanooga area. That's an expressway I'll never get bored of myself, and I wish more expressways had as interesting scenery as that part of I-24 does!
