why would an airline sell a RT ticket cheaper than a one way ticket? I just purchased 4 RT tickets on an airline and even though I only need one-way tickets (since we are moving) I am saving over $100 per ticket!!! Wouldn't an airline prefer to know in advance that we were really only flying one-way so they wouldn't have empty seats and they could sell those seats to someone else? I know SW airlines lets you buy one way tickets and it doesn't cost more buy why don't other airlines do this? Makes no sense to me!!!

Just wondering............

Pam

I don't really know either. Best analogy I have is:

Tomatoes $.50 ea or 3 for $1.00.

I dunno.

I'm thinking, mind you theory only here, is that when purchasing a round trip ticket they are "assured" the seats are going to be filled. I know some of the smaller ones like Horizon Air and Allegiant air do one way flights. I'm thinking Allegiant only goes to and from Las Vegas, could be wrong.

Very good question! I have thought the same thing and that is why I love to fly Southest! Perhaps somebody who works for the airline industry can answer this question!

Take a look at the past 40 years worth of front-pages.
Take a look at your last 10 years worth of paychecks and the with-held sections.
Take a look at gas prices the past several years.
Look at the cost increases on grocery items over the past 6 years.
Watch CNN, FOX, and every news show you can.
Check out the history of the airline industry since the bankruptcies started oh so many years ago.
Take a look at what the break-up of Ma Bell has done.
You're looking for something that makes sense?
See me in the funny pages!

I was wondering where you were going with this until I read the last sentence!
