anything other than the beaches?

I don't see the point of flying 18 hours to see beaches within 3 or 5 hours reach.

Unique wildlife (especially birds). Mauritius is where the dodo used to live, and there are several other species of birds there that are found nowhere else.

I corrected myself in post #9. I was thinking about some other Indian Ocean islands.
