A river that flows AWAY from the larger body of water, Lake Michigan. Though it wasn't always that way. It was a major engineering project to reverse the flow. And there are locks to keep too much water from flowing out.
The Tennessee river ends up north from where it begins just outside Knoxville.
Speaking of flowing uphill, last summer I was canoeing on the Holston and there was a large water release on the French Broad so the current on the Holston was "uphill" for the last 1/4 mile until they joined to form the Tennessee.
The Columbia flows east to west, so I guess that means it is flowing sideways?
