This is not unique to flight attendants, it's happening in all areas... top level management screws over the workers at the bottom for their own personal gain.
Let's be honest. This is NOT a news piece, it is produced by the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the union that represents the American Airlines flight attendants.
Every business involved with unions I have seen is a mess. Airlines no different.
I have talked to a few attendants in my time and they work 8-14 days a month. Not high pay but if they have other interests, it's not bad to have that other time off.

8 days a month? Hardly. Maybe with vacation.
F/A's at my company start out @ $15,000/year with 10 days off a month. After a year it goes up a bit, maybe $17k/year.
Keep in mind SWA is one of the most heavily unionized carriers and also the most profitable. Their pay is also good.
I rented a sublet from an Argentinian woman who used to be a flight attendant in the 70s and 80s for Delta or American (I forgot). I really wanted to be one for awhile, and she said it aint what it used to be.

Nor is being a passenger.
Flying's true golden age (60's-70's for me) peaked before deregulation, and 9/11 was the nail in the coffin.
Airfare is cheaper and service has changed.
From the video: "I don't think they appreciate us."
heh
Join the club.
One thing I do sympathize with is that airline personnel now have a tougher time flying nonrev, which used to be a nice benefit for them.
Everyone has taken hits in the airline industry. And honestly for a job that does not require a college degree and most is costumer service with the rare but real posibility of an emergency their pay as they gain senority really is not terrible. Want to talk about low wages lets talk about pilots first. A bit more important and a bit more difficult of a job than being a flight attendant yet you can find airlines where flight attendants makes more then pilots!
