I have a vacation scheduled for the second week in June and for once, didn't make arrangements several months ahead of time.
My plans have been to look at some last minute travel deals- and I'm open to going ANYWHERE! And I have a passport, so out of the country is not out of the question.
I've been paying regular visits to Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, and Priceline. Nothing great- I'm looking to spend less $800-1,000 for flight and 5-7 nites in a hotel. It's not hard to find packages but the flight schedules are ridiculous- several stops and really long layovers seem to be the norm- and when you find a schedule that allows for reasonable travel time, the price jumps by several hundred dollars.
I've found a few possibilities- Vegas (been there, done that already), Jamaica (been there already too), and a western caribbean cruise that looks promising.
But I'm wondering if any of my CDF friends might have any other websites or avenues to pursue.
My true hope is to get a great deal for europe- maybe Ireland, Italy or Amsterdam- but I'm interested in anything.
You don't say where, geograpically, you are, but could your location have anything to do with the flight schedules?
I assume you're in the US, but here in the Great White North most travel agencies have a "last minute" board which can offer signifigant savings. The travel sections of major newspapers are also full of last minute deals.
I'm in Florida.....that's probably a big part of the problem. I had a $276 RT flight to Seattle yesterday on expedia and when I went to enter my credit card info the price had increased to $600!
Check the airlines themselves. They often have last minute deals where they publish the rate on Tuesday or Wednesday for flights that weekend. When we were young and childfree we would pick a weekend, look at the airlines and see what they offered then picked a place to visit. It was a great way to travel. Now with Priceline you can then go in and priceline a hotel in the area and probably get a nice little getaway for $500.
