The Norwegian Epic has Caribbean itineraries and will not be charging single supplements for solo cruisers. I think the single supplement has been the biggest drawback for those of us who are single males* and want to try out cruising...now you can without paying double.
*I say single males because I know women don't have issues cruising in groups of single women, but for whatever reason men are not comfortable cruising together unless they are gay!
No, it's of great interest to single women like myself also who would like to have a cruise experience without a roommate experience. I hope this program is successful enough that they expand it beyond the Caribbean.
I've hesitated to do much traveling w/ groups because the outrageous single supplement that solo travelers have to pay. Hope this program is taking hold. Anyone with suggestions for single travelers - please post them.
Single supplements are nothing compared to paying double just so you can have your own cabin on a cruise ship. This was one of the things that really turned me off on cruising. I wasn't going to do an Alaskan cruise initially because paying double made it ridiculous for a 1 week cruise (over $4,200).
Cruising solo can be good but there are advantages to having two people since one can be a lookout.
Have one person go loiter in the public restroom while the other hangs out in the parking lot and calls cell phone if a park ranger or police are in the area. Less chance of getting arrested.
