We dodged a bullet. We went on a five week cruise back in February last year on a cruise ship. It left Southampton, UK and crossed the Atlantic both ways. We visited places like Bermuda, the Bahamas, NOLA, Key West, Miami and various islands in the Caribbean.

Only on our return crossing did we have a change to the schedule, when we were prevented from docking in the Azores. We arrived back in Southampton the day that France, where we live, was going into lockdown (March 19th I think).

We had arranged a ferry crossing from the UK to France via the internet whilst on board and got back into France, drove six hours south and stayed there throughout the well regulated lockdown period.

There were no reported cases of Covid on board, despite being in NOLA for two days just after Mardi Gras.

We took a road trip ~10 hours away for a wedding earlier this month and spent a total of 5 days sleeping somewhere other than our house. Promptly self-quarantined for 14 days afterwards just in case (I have 2 kids who are too young to be vaxxed).

Just back from a nice, if smoky Florida to Yosemite trip. It got thrown together in April when things were still somewhat uncertain so it was planned around nature and wide open spaces. The San Francisco leg was based out of a silicon Valley suburb with easy access to redwoods and coastline rather than downtown SF and everything else was national park and national forest settings.

Been 'hanging around' closeby in USA (unfortunate and risky during a pandemic). My friends and coworkers in Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and even China have had a much safer spot for a 'sick year', and no layoffs / work / home / event disruptions beyond first month.

Hawaii and Southern Mexico is as far as I have traveled during Covid.

In USA...
Flights ~20-30 Usually 2-4 / month (4 this week)
Road trips... have done 5. ~ 1,000 - 2,000 miles each. 6 states in the last 2 weeks.
Daily doing a lot of backroad motorcycle exploring (~200 miles / day).

Covid is here to stay(USA), so come up with your battle plan. I will be none too happy if in Sept they remove the masking requirement for planes and airports and public transit. But... That will not slow me, (Until I get sick) I will just have to be much more aware, diligent, and extra careful.

I do have contacts with all kinds if Covid isses, so very glad I have not been affected. A previous young tenant has a very serious Neurological response to Pfizer #2. He has been bed-bound for 7 weeks and can only have visitors for 20 min / day (his young kids). Many experimental treatments, No improvement! Ouch. (4) elderly neighbors tested positive last week. Several friends with 'Long Covid'. Not something I want!

Stay safe, but travel (carefully) as you wish & consider important.
I don't suggest flying. While safe (?) it is VERY crowded and LOTS of kids (unmasked) and very violent and angry anti-maskers (especially in Southern USA). Dangerous stuff happens to the innocent when people are so tense.

I can be out of my town in about three minutes. I live in a small town surrounded by a multitude of other small towns.

481,000 cases with 2900 deaths.

Thaiger news is reporting that things are getting bad, just after they opened Pattaya to more tourism.
