I hate hate hate I95 until you are south of Richmond VA..I would prefer to take I 81 and cut over towards Richmond..does anyone know the exit or way i should be looking for to cut over to I 95?? I know it will add miles to the trip but I81 through WVA & VA is much prettier as well
When we visit family in So. NJ we take 113 and 13 to come back home to NC, we avoid all the traffic in the DC area. Once you get into NC you can take 81 toward SC and Wilmington. It will probably take you about 11 hrs. Have a nice trip.

I imagine you are referring to I-64 East to cut over to I-95 (using the outer loop/VA-288 around Richmond), it is exit 221 off of I-81 in VA.
Kelsie is right. Take US-13/113 down through Delaware and across the Chesapeak Bay Bridge/Tunnel into Norfolk. It's a good road down through pleasant farm country which avoids all the urban turmoil of Baltimore/Washington. It will lead you right onto I-64 and you can follow it east (DON'T BE CONFUSED! Since it's an even-numbered interstate, it's signs designate East and West, no matter which way it's actually going. On the south side of Norfolk, the road is actually going due west, but the signs say I-64 EAST!)
From there, you can take US-17 all the way into Wilmington ( a several hours drive) or follow US-58 back out to I-95 to I-40. It's farther that way, but faster than US-17.

Thanks but that is just way to confusing for me besides isn't 13/113 secondary roads with traffic lights etc etc.
