I don't want this to get too political. Think of it as more food for thought with a huh?
I saw news today that Libertarian Pres. Candidate Gary Johnson was near 10% in the national polls. He can participate in the national debates when he is polling at 15%.
Some say he could easily get Colorado, New Mexico and maybe even Oregon's votes. Obviously, the popular vote doesn't elect Presidents, it is the electoral college.
WA was also discussed. IDK if Johnson could win WA. His unifying theme is making pot legal everywhere. He has other things too, but he's most known for his views on MJ. Many think he would take more votes away from Clinton than Trump. I could see him winning in CO and maybe a few other states. What do you think? Could Gary Johnson be a candidate WA voters would support?

Well, speaking for myself, I don't see coast-to-coast MJ legalization as the #1 issue I would like to see the next president take on. A toning down of the whole prison-industrial complex and Tricky Dick's War on Drugs would be a good move, IMHO, but the overall economy is more important to me.

I agree with you Mitch. The economy and other things are far more important to me when voting. I believe those looking at what Gov. Gary Johnson might win are focusing on Millenials and maybe Gen Xers. Getting the younger voters to vote is a concern for all the candidates, as far as I know. Those groups don't necessarily have the same priorities as you and I, plus others here.
I admit I'd like to see Gov. Johnson in the Debates. I think he could address some issues in a way the traditional candidates can't, or won't. He'd also add some humor, IMO.
I hope this copies here. It is an Electoral Map. It would be interesting to see how many Electroral Votes Johnson might take away from the two main candidates, in certain states.
At least Gov. Johnson is more mellow than those he might be debating. He admits he hasn't had any "edibles" for two months.
I'll double check this. I think Gov. Johnson either owns, co-owns, or has previously owned part of a large marijuana business in CO. If NM and CO voted for him that is a few Electoral Votes, and who knows if some New England states, like VT might as well in the most bizarre Presidential Race I've ever seen.
This is about 15 months old. I have another link to post about Gary Johnson and his understanding of the business of Weed. but for now, is he correct in what he says about WA vs. OR?
I do think he could take away some Electoral Votes, but I don't know if it will matter in the long run. But who knows? It's 2016 and IDK if any traditional rules apply.
I found this as part of a job description I found on LinkedIn.

Hey tricities,
Im curious as to what everybody ( Specifically people in the tricities ) thinks about the legalization of pot?..
Are you for it because you enjoy adding it to your social life legally?
or are you for it for the taxes?
Are you against it because of the public has been told about it?
or are you against it because of the negative impact that it might have on the public?
thanks for your opinions!!
I'm not a pot smoker but I support it being legalized because I don't think people should be locked up just for a little bit of marijuana, I also believe marijuana is a good stress reliever and helps people feel more relaxed.
What is the outcome, then, of a DOE Hanford in a now Recreational Cannabis WA state?
All Hanford employees without a DOE clearance can or cannot?
With a store in Richland, where most are that work at Hanford, how does that work.
You do or do not? Rarely? Never?
Thanks.

There is a new shop in west Richland at 4950 Arena road just off Keene. Much closer to the population than Finley.

Jesus H. Christ. You do not answer my question. Can anyone? Make in inference. Be brave.
I'll guess and incompletely conclude, then, the unspoken policy is "Don't ask, don't tell" between Hanford Site employees and the DOE contractor companies including PNNL.
The work is too important, to great, and too novel to be mired in primitive notions of what one does in private versus the CFRs and policy statements I reference in links in my prior post. As with any role, provide excellent job or role performance. Should you deliver, it does not matter what you do. With exception of those that handle radioactive material.
However, with orange-faced Dump suggesting a 25% budget cut across the entirety of Hanford. The point may be moot for some.
We hope the mighty and powerful Maria Cantwell, my very favorite of all senators, who truly cares for the WA-state citizenry, will lead the halt to the Dump. Maybe we can restore progressive taxation and not be a debtor nation as we are. The US Citizenry are such a disappointment. No critical notion and ever deeper illiteracy. Your right you execute on is too consume unendingly.
Though Jay Grinslee and his WA-state Carbon Tax, which you WA-state citizens rightfully voted down, is to lead legislation that WA-state become carbon-free by 2030. Easy to do with the BPA there and all that hydropower. I interviewed for contract jobs at the BPA. Never got in. The North American power grid and the SCADA controls are in my wheel house. Denied, denied, denied.
Why does Grinslee not lead progressive taxation efforts on the carbon based power producers? So-called liberal or progressives or democrats mouth matters such as progressive taxation. Yet never do or deliver. A carbon tax driving up the price per gallon at the pump is his suggestion when you already have too much gas per gallon tax with each gallon. With some research on your part (I'm not posting citations here), the CEOs of the largest oil companies want you to pay a carbon tax. So they do not.
We could use a president like Abraham Lincoln again. Maybe either Roosevelt. What a slew of toilet presidents after Eisenhower. Oh, and corresponding US congresses.
Yet the fault is entirely on the US Citizenry. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Septupling down on the failed two-party jackass USA system that both serve the Dow Jones, the kleptocratic plutarchy oligarchs, and not you, US Citizen. Bet you have it good enough not to care. I do not.
Here come Joe "Credit Card Diamond" Biden - a Dow Jones / Wall Street champion. His running mate will be the former ruthless Oakland, CA prosecutor Kamala Harris, locking up anyone and everyone. More neoliberal hooey and corruption.
Obama could have raised taxation on so many revenue sources for the ACA. He opted to let the middle class to eat itself. While bubbling on saying the "Public Option" "Public Option" "Public Option".
It is not left or right. It is up or down. Monied or not. Monied. US debt-based currency. Ain't money.
Yet as you work at Hanford, and enjoy some WA-state recreational cannabis as I want to should I return, eat some pizza or BBQ in your Richland or Kennewick or Spokane house with garage, maybe basement, washer drier hookups, and three or four bedrooms, watch some cartoons, enjoy your craft ales, and share hugs with your beloved. (Oxford Comma all the time.)
Midwestern ales with limey water from the polluted rivers here or the limestone wells, the phosphorus anti corrosive compounds to sequester the lead lined cast iron alloy water mains beneath the mineral scale, make for truly terrible craft beer. In a town that gives you Budweiser, Miller, and the like midwest nasty lager and ales, and the NE and SE, the quality bar is set so low the craft brewers need not produce well. Sweet and yeastie.
How I miss Slate Creek Brewery in Coeur d'Alene. Really love their Norse Nectar Rye and Juniper ale with the complementary Salty Peanuts you shuck and leave the shells on the floor. I ask for another bowl to leave the shells in so the folks there are a little less burdened.
Sorry to go on so. The lack of response gets my goat. Where I am in this degenerate midwestern toilet I so wholly despise as put me in a mood. Oh, and the gangstalking funded by local near do wells to get the schadenfreude experience. That would be my next question in a new thread about gangstalking in the Tri-Cities.
Happy Sat-Your-Day. Enjoy your ocean-going vessel-sized bong tokes and edibles.

I do not work at PNNL nor any other part of the Hanford cleanup. I am sorry I couldn't directly answer your question.
Mtn. States resident passed away about two years ago. This is why this site presents her name in black. She was quite prolific on the Idaho Falls and General Idaho forums.
