Sure hope we don't have a really bad fire season this summer.

Already starting bad with the Yakima river delta fire. Fortunately not in a populated area but extremely close to a major transportation corridor, hwy 240.

I'm sitting outdoors at a cafe in Richland currently, needed to get out of the neighborhood so I'm working from eastern WA for a few days. A bit surprised how cool it is in May east of the Cascades, officially 73 but feels like 65.

A bit windy today hence a cooler feel. Come back in a month and it will feel much different!

May 2021 high temps average 78.1, about two degrees above normal. First four days of June appear to be 100 plus.

Well, ever since about June 20, it has been rather hot around here. Is it my imagination, or are we having a good bit hotter than normal summer?

Anybody know what is going on from a meteorological point of view, besides just a persistent high pressure area over much of the Tri-City and surrounding area?

Sorry about the delay of the high temps for June 2021. Average high was 91.7, about 9 degrees above normal. Very unusual month with cool weather during the first half of the month and well above normal heat during the second half, culminating with tripe digits from June 26th through the 30th. This is the warmest June since I started tracking in 2015. July appears to be on track for record heat as well, though the month is still early.

UPDATE: While this summer has been hot, it still has a ways to catch up with 2015 if you go by temps above 100. In 2015 there were 21 days of 100 degrees or greater. As of today, we are at 13. Will be interesting to see how close we come or if we go past 2015 in this metric.

Thanks for that update. I do think we had the hottest June since, well, maybe since records have been being kept. The 115 or so highs in late June are something I don't recall seeing before, not in June anyway. And I have been around here 30 years.

Isn't August usually the hottest month?

I always considered July to be the hottest month, I remember by the end of August the evenings can get a little chilly, this year's June reminds me very much of late June 2015 when we saw temps in the 110's, I agree Summer of 2015 was a scorcher, that's what this year's summer reminds me of.
