We've recently moved to Pasco (Court & 395 area) and have noticed a bad smell in the air on occasion. Not quite livestock, not quite sewer, but a hint of skunk/chemical, maybe. Any ideas?

Most likely the Boise Cascade Paper Mill at Wallula. A little breeze out of the east is all it takes.

I notice it's more common in wet weather, probably because the dense, humid air seals in the stink. I have never been sure whether it was the Iowa Beef cow-killing plant at Wallula or the BC plant, but based on growing up near both feedlots and paper mills, probably a bouquet of both. Très charmant.

I'm now in kennewick, but when we lived in Pasco we noticed it too and asked around. We were told by several people there was a slaughter house near the railroad hump yard that spreads its stink pretty far.

I guessing the smell is coming from the pulp mill. Not sure if they are still there but over by the railroad yards there use to be several spud storage sheds. Those would get quite ripe smelling from time to time.

Not sure if those are still there, but I know for sure there are some not far down the road in Burbank because our self-adopted daughter got married in one. Fortunately it didn't reek that day.

It's kind of like a sweet chemical smell. Doesn't smell natural. Kind of hard to describe. Some days it's really strong & other days not at all...

5/7/2019, oh my goodness someone opened to sewer tank and let the stink out. We can't even open the door without gaging. This is really bad tonight.
