Mass murders are usually solved in the US. They have one of the highest "clearance rates" of just about any type of murder. However, some cases remain open...

One of the more disturbing ones was the "Tinley Park massacre" from February 2008, where six women were shot by an unknown gunman during a suspected robbery at a clothing store in Tinley Park, Illinois, a southwestern suburb of Chicago. Five died. There are no publicly-named suspects to date, and no arrests.

That same year, in November, there was a quintuple homicide at a homeless encampment near the 405 freeway in Long Beach, California - it has also gone unsolved:

Fear sets up camp on a stretch of the L.A. River

There is also an unsolved sextuple homicide from June 2005 that took place in Yuma, Arizona:

And a notorious case from the small town of Craig, Alaska, where eight people were murdered aboard a boat in September 1982:

Post 9/11 anthrax attacks? I know that the case is considered closed by the FBI, and the suspect, Bruce Ivins, killed himself prior to arrest, but many question whether he was guilty, or at least the only one involved.

That zodiac guy. I think that was in the 70's? I saw a TV show where the son found a piece of clothing that the zodiac used to wear on his head when he committed the crimes in his deceased father's personal stuff, and other things that tied him to it, but I don't think it was conclusive.

In the 80's, four people were murdered in Keddie, CA. Its a pretty sad case and no one has ever been arrested.
