Aussie I agree! I have seen many mothers, in particular mothers of grown son's protect their son's in anyway they can. I am sure that she feels sad about Zahara. She was after all, her grand daughter and she lived with Karen Baker.
However, Zahara is dead now, and as a mother, her main concern must be keeping her son out of jail, and getting him back to Australia.

I wonder if getting the son back there would help or hurt his mother. After getting him back, she may think every time she sees him, of how he let that witch torment his daughter, her beloved granddaughter.

I still think 1st degree murder is the more appropriate charge. Whether she actually intended/planned to kill the child, she should have known that her constant abuse of her would cause her already fragile health to decline further & could easily lead to her death. Wouldn't take a very smart person to understand that. Dismembering & scattering her body is further evidence f foul play & is a crime in itself. Any sort of death from course of sickness or injury would be reported by calling 911. Not to mention, no health care services were sought for her in her last days.

I have no doubt one or both the father & stepmother knows where Zahra's head is buried. I hope authorities get it out of them one way or another.
