This is a really interesting (and very sad) story. This man is a Mexican national (I can't figure out if he is a legal or an illegal alien; according to NPR, he was in the country legally at the time of the crime) but was not informed of his rights according to the Vienna Convention. He also states that he is innocent:

He is slated to die by lethal injection on July 7, 2011, but his attornies are attempting a stay-of-execution, and the case just gets more complicated:

In the early hours of May 21, 1994, 16-year-old Adria Sauceda and dozens of others attended a raucous Southside house party on Vincent Street, where witnesses reported seeing a dazed Sauceda — pumped full of alcohol, cocaine, and marijuana — pulled to the backyard. There she was stripped and circled by eight or nine men, each “taking turns” on the disoriented teenager. Friends who came to her aid were told to shut up, drink, and quit spoiling the party.

Humberto Leal later abducted this already brutally savaged teenager and raped her some more before finally ending your misery by crushing in her skull with a 35 lb chunk of asphalt. When police found her dead and ravaged body on the side of the dirt road where Leal left her, there was still a large stick that had a screw protruding from it that Leal left jammed up her lifeless body after he raped her with it.

There that is what the monster who you think his rights were violated did to that poor young lady in Texas. I want so badly to tell you what I think of you for your ignorant opinion but I'll refrain...

Default Humberto Leal

StarlaJane, yeah we all feel very sad for poor Humberto. Can't catch a break. Lived here illegally most likely for how many years sucking the life out our free services until he finally brutally sucked the life out of this poor girl. I am sure she deserved that. Now he faces our free and fair system of justice and wants to crawl back to Mexico so he can be bailed out. I am sure there are a long line of bleading heart just like you crying for this poor mans justice. We dont know who her parents were, or her brother or sisters or boyfriend. I wonder how they feel about all of these creatures standing up for this poor man.

My sadness goes to the victim and her family.

Are you seriously asking us to sympathize with this monster? This guy is the poster boy of why we should have a death penalty.
