What? You think other people's children deserve less protection than yours??? Either he's a danger to society or he's not. If he is, you keep him locked up to protect society. In this case, they can sentence him to life in prison. We're not talking about someone who broke into a house and stole something here. We're talking about someone who killed a toddler in cold blood.

I'm not worried about this child. He's shown himself to be evil. I'm worried about protecting society from this child and that includes both of our children.

The whole point is that this 12 year old is facing LIFE in PRISON. Nobody is talking about giving him community service and letting him walk, for heaven's sake. Which is why the whole "why don't you let him live with your kids" argument is ridiculous. I don't recall reading one single post that stated he should be set free, only that he should be given help, and given a chance. There are other options that should be considered for a child of 12 who is obviously seriously disturbed. At age 12, life is a long, long time. You cannot tell me that you know for a fact between now and the next 60 or 70 years, there is no hope that this child can be rehabilitated.

I have seen rapists, child molesters and pornographers, and yes, even 1st degree murderers serve 15-25 years or less. I have seen adults who murder their own babies, purposefully beat them to death the way this toddler was beaten, and get 25 years or less. Google the cases of Nixzmary Brown or Brianna Lopez and look at the time the parents of those children are serving for TORTURING their children, then explain to me why a little 12 year old boy is facing such a harsh sentence.

There are ways of protecting society from this boy, and also getting him the help that should have been given all along. It is not all or nothing. The problem is, there is always that one person that gets to be the "example" and gets the book thrown at them, and I think this is one of those cases.

No warm fuzzy foster-mommy hugs or "loving environment" can fix somebody like that.

Maximum security prison isn't the right place, though. A tight psych facility would be a better idea.

Years of intensive therapy could.

Will you stop putting words in my mouth? I think all children deserve protection!

Stating that I think, if it is possible, to rehabilitate and release this child has ZERO to do with protecting my children or yours.

Exactly. Well put.

If he's too evil and scary to have around MY kids, he's too evil and scary to have around ANYONE's kids. THAT is the point.
And BTW, there are a lot of people I would not let live in my house. In fact, that would probably be most people. Does that mean that everybody I wouldn't trust in my home should be locked up forever? Doesn't make a lot of sense does it? The two have nothing to do with each other and sounds completely ridiculous.

You may not buy mitigating factors, but they do exist and are considered in a court of law. So are aggravating factors, such as previous criminal records, level of violence, age of victim, etc. Based on the few snippets of information I got from that article, looks like Cristian Fernandez has more mitigating than aggravating factors. I only hope justice is served for not only the dead child, but all the children involved in this situation including Cristian.
I sure think we should be writing letters to the editor of the Jax paper, letting them know how we feel, as well as, letters to the district attorneys office. It can't hurt and may help. I don't want the child turned back out, scot free. I want him to be given a chance to live a useful life, not locked up in some jail cell for the rest of his life, the sweetheart of some pedophile in prison......double punishment. He will become a monster.

I don't care where he's locked up just so he's locked up for life. People need to be protected from evil like this.

So, calling a cold blooded murderer evil makes me callous??? Then call me callous. I don't care if he's 12, 22 or 84.... it is evil to murder your siblings.

If you think I'm a troll, check my post count. I just think evil people, no matter how old they are, need to be locked up to protect society. This kid is 12 and already has a taste for blood....I don't predict a bright future for him.
