Yesterday I saw an episode of "Frenemies" on the Investigative Discovery Channel, about a murder that took place in a town I'm very familiar with and visit friends there often. They made a movie about it years ago, Murder in a College Town. My friends have mentioned the arson/murder several times, but I never made the conneciton until I saw the TV show.
In the late 1980's, two fraternity brothers who graduated from Thiel College, Ed Swiger and Roger Pratt, committed a frat house burglary (electronics) for the insurance money, and later Swiger became sexually involved with Linda Karlen, a local business woman, who was embezzling money from her furniture store and asked them to assist in the arson of it. She was carrying on with Swiger, who was a college student 14 years her junior, but that kind of behavior didn't suprise anyone who knew her. Pratt was murdered because they were afraid of him talking, and they buried him on the farm of a local doctor (who Linda Karlen had worked for) near Jamestown. On a trip to Jamestown once, we drove by the farm and our friends pointed to the area where they found Pratt.
My heart bleeds for his poor mother and family. I hear Karlen is out of jail, as is Ed Swiger's brother who assisted in the murder.

People's hunger for true crime and police stuff is unbelievable. Said the poster with over 2,000 "already read" true crime titles listed on Shelfari and over 1500 "to be read" waiting in the wings.
