An ex-airline pilot has been convicted of murdering his wife after he deactivated her airbag and deliberately crashed their car into a tree.

Iain Lawrence, 53, was told by High Court judge Mr Justice Leggatt he would serve a minimum of 24 years after being found guilty of murdering his wife Sally.

From reading the news report it sounds as if the jury had plenty of evidence to convict Iain.

But in that article it did not state how he disconnected the airbag. Was his car one that you could simply turn a key to disconnect the passenger side airbag? Or; did he actually physically disconnect/cut the passenger airbag?

The only reason that I am asking is that if it a simple disconnect system; perhaps his wife could have asked to have it disconnected? There are some smaller people that live in fear of an airbag opening. There are some vehicles that have an 'easy' turnoff switch for the airbag/s.

Also I am curious how they knew that he deliberately disconnected his wife's seat belt just before the crash? Was that part of an electronic log (black box) in the vehicle? Or was it only speculation?
