Don't know if this guy has been mentioned,but there was Carl Panzman,I think that's how you spell his last name.He killed one woman,but the majority of his victims were men.He as a kid spent time in and out of reform school,and also served prision time.
When he was to be hung,he told his executioner, that he could of killed 12 men in the time it was taking him to hang one.
He was befriended by a prision guard,forgot his name to whom Carl gave details about his crimes. He warned the guard even though he considered him the one human being who actually treated him with decency, he should never turn his back on him. Meaning that i suppose that he would even kill a friend.

His name's spelled Panzram. He was a scary one, all right. He never met anyone he didn't want to kill. But having read his autobiography, I have to say he came by it honestly.
I am not old enough to have experienced all the terror each wack job unleashed but, I would say the Nightstalker because it was so random and he was all over the place. He had the entire state of CA terrified and on edge. People were literally staying awake at night waiting for that creep. Made sense that he was mobbed at the end.
