Has anyone gotten a new SS number issued, due to an identity theft problem? Did SS give you a hard time about doing it? Do you have any advice on how you did it? Thanks.

Basically, fill out a form, if they feel you have a legit need.. They can change your number.

Can't tell you how easy it is, or if they make it difficult.

Seems the problems would be less with SS than with everyone who has that number legitimately.. Your bank, health insurer.. etc etc

Thanks. I know. Most of my research says that getting a new SS # is not recommended, unless it's a personal safety issue.

The problem is you will spend a vast amount of time changing the number with so many agencies etc.
