Does anyone watch the show Dexter on Showtime? I rented the first season, and it was awesome! It's main character is a serial killer who works forensics for the Miami police dept.
he is the inspiration for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Anyone else find these people disturbingly interesting?
I wouldn't say I was fascinated by them, but I've watched several shows that examine serial killers. I also watch shows like Snapped - where women kill their husbands/boyfriends.
My mom thinks it's morbid, I just like to watch the investigations and hear the different reasons people come up with as "why" people do the things they have done.
There has to be some cruelty in their actions at a young age. I think that's a sign and also the fact that they are cold hearted. When something bad happens, they show no compassion. I suppose when they show coldness/bitterness/sadism towards other living beings and show no remorse for their actions when they hurt someone. Probably only psychiatrists could determine who's gonna be a killer and who won't be.
I am finally understanding how a person that was abused could turn into an abuser. I used to think when you've been hurt/abused, you would never put anyone else through what you experienced because you know how bad it feels. But it doesn't work that way for some. Some turn their own suffering around and do the same to innocent victims and find 'enjoyment' from it. Or relief or whatever you call it.
Look at what happened in the Stayner family after the one boy(Steven) got abducted by that paedophile and then the older brother murdered people later on.
Also, serial killers, like BTK, had families and were the picture of tranquility and good behavior..Like split personalities almost.
I would study this if I could and become a profiler. That's one interesting subject IMO

There were a couple of serial killers here in California a while back. The Hillside Stranglers - cousins Angelo Buono, Jr. and Kenneth Bianchi. I can remember being in Jr. High and everybody talking about these guys. Everyone was afraid of the Hillside Stranglers.
You'd be surprised how many women write to these convicted serial killers once they are in prison. Yes, there ARE serial killers out there, and chances are....

I go in stages. I read a series of books on serial killers and then I have to stop for a bit. It can get a little heavy on the spirit.
I've found John Douglas, the FBI profiler, has written some excellent books on the motivations of serial killers and he's very accurate and successful in tracking them too.
Never read any of his books,moonshadow, I'll remember that name and check it out after I get moved and settled.
I too have my moments and periods when I read about serial killers and then take a break; I'm taking a break now.

I remember them from my time living in California. I used to live alone for many years and I used to worry about the Hillside Strangler. They say he used to strike near freeways and open windows.. i had both. Living in a place without a/c and next to a freeway.
I now live in Nevada, next to a freeway.
