I know the sub human would never give me the answers I sought but I would just want to ask them.

I think the victims and the family members should be allowed to be alone with him in a room for just one minute.

I read the official summary of the case - sounds like he will be a jailhouse lawyer, nitpicking various details of the case, venue, etc.
For your words to have any effect, or those questions answered, the guilty party would have to actually care about the harm he's caused to innocent people. It would be an exercise in futility, because most of them don't.

The death penalty isn't bad enough for people like him. It's too bad that Minnesota, like many "blue" states has such compassion for monsters. One of the purposes of punishment should be people's sense of justice. That should not be treated as revenge.

If you act as if you don't belong in civilized society you don't. plain and simple.

It makes me sick that this animal was fine with allowing thousands of volunteer hours in seach of Jacob. So many donations to keep the search going all these years. He got his rocks off with the little boy and then he killed him like nothing and buried him like nothing. Now he's busted with child porn and is looking at the rest of his miserable life behind bars so he cuts a deal for better accommodations most likely and gives up the location. A pure psychopath and they knew it was him all along, just couldn't prove it. I hope he has some kind of an "accident" in prison real soon.

The Hulig family murders and now Jacob Wetterling did get solved after decades passed by.
It's all about resources and rural areas even in Minnesota are left to fend for themselves. Even in the Cities the locals and Feds are overwhelmed. Just ask my daughter who worked with the ATFE and witnessed drug deals going down from her perch window on the 17th floor of the Wells Fargo bldg. in St Paul with the St Paul police doing NOTHING!

The problem goes beyond that. Drug arrests cost money. They involve lots of time of officers tied up testifying in court. Drug dealers rarely pay their fines and the fines certainly don't cover enforcement costs.

However, time spent patrolling for traffic violations is far more profitable. I have written on this. See Random Policing, or Radaring for Dollars. So the problem is partially that traffic offenses are both far safer for police to enforce and far more lucrative. According to this article in a recent newspaper, Police Losing Battle to Get Drivers to Put Down Their Phones police officers are:
  1. Posing as homeless people standing on the side of the road, who radio ahead to officers to write tickets for texting (in one two hour period 56 tickets, or almost one every two minutes, were issued this way);
  2. Bicycling up to motorists and issuing tickets; and
  3. Patrolling in a tractor-trailer so they can sit up high and observe motorists better.
While imaginative, one would wish the innovation be used to stop real crime rather than persecute motorists trying to get more done in less time. Louisiana has, for example, raised the fine for texting, first time offense, from $175 to $500.

I was working at a truck stop at the time he was abducted, I remember seeing his photo on the back of numerous trailers at the time.

@jbgusa: All true. But look at where this crime happened. Nearly 30yrs ago out in the middle of nowhere on a deserted country road and all unlocked doors. A perfect 'cruising' ground for a local pedophile like the "person of interest" that locals just rolled their eyes over WITHOUT any fear. I see that the Wetterlings (from recent story article bylines) have moved to Golden Valley: Twin Cities sprawl. Would Jacob have had his beautiful life cut short there or even in the Cities? IMO, I think not. I'm not taking away (or adding) ANY grief (or guilt) from/to the Wetterlings OR what we all feel for their loss: but this was a HUGE wakeup call to rural America...felt nationwide. And NOW it's coming out that local law enforcement as well as the FBI was totally complicit with local ignorance. RIP Jacob.

This part (from the link above)

"He handcuffed Jacob behind his back and drove away as Jacob asked, 'What did I do wrong?'"

just breaks my heart. I don't know how Jacob's parents, friends, family are dealing with all of this, but I hope they find peace. I hope the focus shifts back to Jacob's life and not his death.
