Seriously, though, is that all they were doing? I knew a guy who used to work at the British mint and they weighed you at the beginning and end of each day to make sure you weren't doing exactly what this guy did. It seems like such a no-brainer to do that with any mint employee.

Don't think this was real.
Otherwise you could just drink a pint of water before you go in and then walk out with $15,000 in gold each day.
Add to that a metabolism loss of 2.5 L a day (about 10 pounds), you could stuff yourself silly with gold if you didn't eat or drink during the day.
