That is crazy! So I guess the law wants us to pee our pants instead.

The statute also contains the word "exposes", which implies that private parts should be visible to said other people, and the word "lewdly", which has been interpreted by the courts to imply a sexually motivated act.

Under California law, as interpreted by the courts, not only is it NOT "indecent exposure" simply to pee in a public place, but it's not "indecent exposure" even to walk along a sidewalk and moon passing cars, if sexual motivation can't be proven: "a conviction ... requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the actor not only meant to expose himself, but intended by his conduct to direct public attention to his genitals for purposes of sexual arousal, gratification, or affront" (in re Smith (1972); in re Dallas W. (2000)).

Of the people who end up on sex offender registry, the majority (I'd say, 80%) get there because of a conviction under the section 288 of the penal code, "lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age".

No way I believe any of this BS. We sure do have some overreaching laws, but get a grip. Unless as someone else stated, you're pissing in a sandbox full of children, you aren't going to be labeled a sex offender. Where do people come up with this stuff...
