He's 70 yo now, but assuming he lives to 95, during his 3-5 year prison stint he could convert to Christianity, start some ministry that does good works, and write a book when he gets out.
I would never trust him. He will never be able to pay back the people he stole from. There will be people gunning for him until he dies.
Agreed. Its a bum deal losing a couple hundred bucks, but he conned people out of billions. People who have millions or billions of money to lose are likely to find him first. I bet there is a high price on his head.

Did Ken Lay's reputation recover? Skilling's? OJ Simpson's?
Madoff has the proverbial goat. He's now and forevermore a goat.

Interesting point. I don't know that Dean's reputation has recovered so much as most of the world is too young to remember Watergate.
If Keating's reputation is so stellar, why were McCain detractors trying to hang Keating's name around McCain's neck?
Milken is probably one of the most hated people in the world.
I don't see Nixon as terribly salient to the argument.
No way can anyone consider G. Gordon Liddy in the same category with Madoff, but Liddy isn't exactly the most revered public figure. He's become famous (sort of) and has some degree of respect due to his complete refusal to cooperate with authorities.
I don't understand why this scumbag who admitted guilt (so no innocent until proven guilty in this case), can have house arrest. What if he takes a bottle of pills and leaves this earth without ever being punished. He should be thrown in prison and the key thrown away. Can you imagine all these people who have worked hard for their money and looked forward to retirement and no have to face this. Some people might say "well the still have enough money left", which might be true for some but still it was their money they worked hard for.
