NEW YORK — Bernard Madoff is seeking to keep a $7 million Manhattan penthouse and an additional $62 million in assets, saying they are unrelated to the fraud that authorities say cost victims more than $50 billion. In court papers filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Madoff and his lawyer claim the apartment, $45 million in municipal bonds and $17 million more in a separate account all belong to Madoff's wife, Ruth.

It boggles my mind what a crook Madoff is.....does he honestly believe this will stand up in court?????

Is it safe to assume that Mrs Madoff *benefited* from, probably contributed to, the fraudulent activity for the last 2 decades???

It seems to me that I read somewhere that in the few days before his arrest, Mrs M swung by a couple of banks withdrawing double digit millions...could that be possibly where "her" cash came from, at least in part???
I would imagine that in the months prior to his "confession" there was some serious scurrying to transfer assets to her name...in fact, weren't they just recently caught mailing cash & valuable to various "friends" ???

Madoff's investors may have been individually and collectively dumber than a bag of hammers, but he underestimates the rest of us....

Apparentely the state of New York is not a community property state, but rather an equitable distribution state..and since we are all too keenly aware of their conspiratorial behaviors..is it really so far fetched to think that as soon as the dust settles, Mr & Mrs M do a "paper" divorce, and an equitable "split" of the money, laughing all the way to the bank????? TOGETHER ?????
