The fact the Court held a hearing on the Petition to be released on bond pending the Appeal, IS NOT THE SAME THING AS RELEASING HIM.

The Nevada Supreme Court can choose to release or not release Mr. Simpson.

It should be noted however that this Court has not been shown to release very many in similar circumstances.

Why does a normal court proceeding become over hyped news?

Simpson, like anyone else, has a right to have his pleadings heard and considered at the appellate level. That is just the law. To turn that into the, "the courts are on the verge of releasing Simpson, Oh My!!" is nonsense. And even if for some odd reason the court does release him, it is a release pending the outcome of his effort to appeal his conviction.

Sadly, far too many of our people really don't understand our legal system or appreciate its value to us all.

Everyone charged is allowed his day in court, whether you think he's guilty or not. And, we are all protected from false imprisonment by due process, whether you think that should apply to everyone or not.

All you're seeing here is that due process. Everyone charged is deemed to be innocent until proven guilty of the charge by the preponderance of the evidence (well....except for certain provisions of the Patriot Act, but that's another subject). A part of the process is the right to appeal, no matter how reprehensible the crime or the person involved. OJ, whether you like him or not, is still a citizen of this country, protected from the excesses of government and he has the perfect right to question his trial AND the right to have it reviewed.

Remember, if HE can be wrongly charged, convicted and held because of public outrage, so can you. So can your spouse, your children, your family.

But, I'm afraid that principle goes right over too many heads.

Hey! I live in Las Vegas and there ain't nothing wrong here that's not also wrong in the rest of the country. But, as others have pointed out, even the most loathsome criminals are entitled to appeal. Just because he's appealing it doesn't mean the court will release him pending that appeal. It only means he has the right to ask.

Thank you for this post. Just look at the men who have been released from prison after serving many years for crimes they did not commit. When considering this fact, it makes your post just more truer. We should be thankful that our laws allow us this right to appeal.
I hope he is released while the appeal takes place.

I don't think he should be released; however I don't feel the punishment fit the crime. He was convicted of what...burglary? Of his own stuff? Come on now, that doesn't warrant a life sentence. Kidnapping or whatever is silly, he's a 50+ year old man.

I say he should be jailed for like 3-4 years, then let him out to do whatever. A 15 to life sentence is foolish.
