I can't give an honest answer here. From what I've seen in the press, there would have been enough for reasonable doubt for me. Of course, I wasn't on the Jury, and I didn't hear all of the evidence, so I really don't know.

This case seems to have more unanswered questions than anything else. From poor handling of the crime scene, to questionable forensics. Seems the Italian press convicted this girl before the jury did. Can a young American receive a fair trial outside the US at the moment, or is the perception of arrogance tainting cases such as these?

I have no idea if she was guilty, glad I wasn't on that jury, but I don't think she received a fair trial.

Thoughts?
The jury heard the facts and convicted her. Case closed. [MOD CUT/off topic]

I read several articles about this case written by both sides, and I can't determine much except that she and her boyfriend are lying about their involvement. Exactly who did what and why is still a mystery to me. I've got a daugter her age who has done stupid things before, things to make her feel "cool" or to "fit in". Fortunately nothing bad ever happened but just thinking about it....ugg. This whole thing just makes me ache! At this point I can only hope Amanda is guilty and did do this because she is a bad person at heart because to think that she made just made one poor choice (who she befreinded, to use drugs, etc) that ended up with this poor girl dying and her life ruined is just too sad to think about as a parent.

We as Americans forget that our country's laws and legal protections do not follow us wherever we go around the world. In most of the world, you have to prove your innocence and even then it doesn't always matter.
No, in most of the world you have to behave yourself and not act like a stupid ass American and think that they will put up with you like we do here.

Well the Italian system is a little different. Much of the forensic evidence that would have been thrown completely out here, because it was tainted, was still admitted in their courts.

And as much as I'd like to think Americans would be unbiased, if an Italian girl was on trial here, with a jury of Americans judging her, I think she wouldn't get the same look as an American girl would have.

Sorrrrryy. Have fun in prison.
She might have thought that it would be like American "justice" where they blame it all on the black guy and she would walk free. Which is no doubt what would have happened here.

Wearing certain clothing, smoking a joint or your tires in a parking lot are things you do to "feel cool" and "fit in" maybe. Murder is not.

They did that, too. They arrested an African and put him in prison for 30 yrs for the same murder. But they also believe Amanda and her bf had something to do with it. Didn't her diary talk about doing orgies and drugs with the victim?

The "black guy" confessed in this case. I think she was convicted by the media many months ago though. I'm not arguing that if you live in another country you should abide by their rules or face the consequences, and maybe the assertive demeanour of young Americans is perceived as arrogance, which doesn't help.
